The arboretum embraces 66 acres of trees, flowers and display gardens with ornamental, perennial and color themes. Visitors are encouraged to relax on the spacious lawn and take in a view of the picturesque gardens. The Women's Garden features an enclosed sanctuary, wind-activated harps and a reflective basin. The Texas Pioneer Adventure is a 2.5-acre exhibit with seven gardens, a sod house, two replica cabins, an American Indian teepee, a covered wagon and interactive displays. Tours of the 1930s DeGolyer House and Gardens are available. The grounds include self-guiding audio tour. Picnicking is permitted.

A 67.5-foot giraffe statue greets visitors at the entrance. The 95-acre zoo features rare and endangered species and includes a gorilla conservation center. The 25-acre Wilds of Africa wilderness reserve re-creates six habitats: bush, desert, forest, mountain, river and woodland. Visitors can take a monorail ride through the African exhibit or walk a 1,500-foot nature trail. The ExxonMobil Endangered Tiger Habitat is home to Sumatran and Indochinese tigers. The naturalistic, open-air environment of the Kimberly-Clark Chimpanzee Forest encourages the primates to climb, search for food and interact. The Otter Outpost features a family of Asian small-clawed otters. The Lacerte Family Children's Zoo features exhibits and activities related to wildlife conservation.

These 100 acres encompass lush botanical gardens, an arboretum and a 2-mile hiking trail with a suspension bridge and two other bridges. The restored 1851 home of Bushrod J.W. Wofford includes furniture, a spinning wheel and cooking utensils common to the mid-1800s. Picnicking is permitted. Allow 1 hour minimum.
